Dire Wolf vs Saber-Toothed Tiger Fight Who Wins

The  dire wolf  (Canis dirus) and the  saber-toothed tiger  (Smilodon fatalis) are two of the best-known megafauna mammals of the late  Pleistocene  epoch, prowling North America until the last Ice Age and the advent of modern humans.  Thousands of  their skeletons have been dredged from the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, indicating that these predators lived in close proximity. Both were formidable, but which would triumph in  mortal combat? Dire Wolf The dire wolf  was a plus-size predecessor of the modern dog and a close relative of the grey wolf (Canis lupus), a carnivore that also scoured Pleistocene North America. (The word dire, meaning fearful or threatening, comes from the Greek word  dirus.) As the genus  Canis  goes, the dire wolf was pretty big. Some may have weighed up to 200 pounds, though 100 to 150 pounds was normal. This predator had powerful, bone-crushing jaws and teeth, used mostly for scavenging rather than hunting. The discovery of huge numbers of associated dire wolf fossils is evidence of pack behavior. Dire wolves had significantly smaller brains than grey wolves, which may explain how the latter helped drive it to extinction. Also, the dire wolfs legs were much shorter than those of modern wolves or large dogs, so it probably couldnt run much faster than a house cat. Finally, the dire wolfs predilection for scavenging rather than hunting would probably have put it at a disadvantage facing  a hungry saber-toothed tiger. Saber-Toothed Tiger Despite its popular name, the saber-toothed tiger was only distantly related to modern tigers, lions, and cheetahs.  The Smilodon fatalis  dominated North (and eventually South) America. The Greek name  Smilodon  roughly translates as saber tooth. Its  notable weapons were its long, curved teeth. However, it  didnt attack prey head-on with them; it lounged in low tree branches, pouncing suddenly and digging its enormous canines into its victim. Some paleontologists believe that the tiger also hunted in packs, though evidence is less compelling than for the dire wolf. As big cats go,  Smilodon fatalis  was relatively slow, stocky, and thick-limbed, the biggest adults weighing 300 to 400 pounds but not as nimble as a comparably sized lion or tiger. Also, as scary as its canines were, its  bite was relatively weak; chomping too hard on prey might have broken one or both saber teeth, effectively dooming it to slow starvation. The Fight In normal circumstances, full-grown saber-toothed tigers wouldnt have come near  comparably sized dire wolves. But if these predators converged on the tar pits, the saber-tooth would have been  at a disadvantage, because it couldnt pounce from a tree branch. The wolf was at a disadvantage because it would rather feast on dead herbivores than hungry carnivores. The two animals would have circled each other, the dire wolf swatting with its paws, the saber-toothed tiger lunging with its teeth. If  Smilodon fatalis  roamed in packs, they likely were small and loosely associated, whereas the dire wolfs  pack instincts would have been much more robust. Sensing that a pack member was in trouble, three or four other wolves would have rushed to the scene and swarmed the saber-toothed tiger, inflicting deep wounds with their massive jaws. The tiger would have  put up a good fight, but it would have been no match for a thousand pounds of canines. A crushing bite to  Smilodons neck would have ended the battle.

Nahiya the Muslin woman that this experiment was based off stated that she fears to walk around alone because she has an incident where she was jumped by 5 girls for dressing the way she does. People need to realize a person’s outfit or skin color does not make up a person; it’s the inside beauty that distinguishes who a person is. â€Å"Colored people† is a known term around the United States and it’s sad. If you are not white you are colored, the person who persons who started this term is ignorant themselves because white is a color. The change in society from back in the day until now has changed for the better but racism still remains. These two conversations made him realize they are people just like him; we all have the same emotions and strive for goals to succeed in life the same way. His picture was shown to twenty people all of which judged him harshly solely on appearance. Some comments that were said were he was definitely a criminal, a low life, and probably had a job at some dollar store because that is all that would hire a guy like him. Little did the people know that guy in the picture was about to walk out and surprise them. Thomas the guy this experiment was based off of walked out in scrubs, you could not see his tattoos and his eyebrow ring was out. He explained that he was one of the most successful surgeons on the east coast and while they take the time to judge him off a picture, he is saving lives. It is not right to judge a book by its cover because what is inside is what you are truly interested in. This experiment opened the spectators’ eyes and they apologized, Thomas informed them stereotyping is not right and is what continues to put our country in such a slump when it comes to treated people equally. He got the idea of moving the freight in a simpler and quicker way by lifting the container from a vehicle directly onto the ship without having the cargo unload. These ideas were vastly improved through â€Å"Intermodalism†. The freight could be moved with the same container with minimum interruption and different transport modes during its journey. Containers where easily moved from ships to trains and trucks which made it easier for those who were shipping cargos in bulk. This has also reduced the number of workers involved in handling and carriage. This idea simplified the logistic process and the idea led to a revolution in cargo transportation and international trade over the next 56 years. Containers are the generic carriers of goods which can be loaded onto any vehicle or type or transport, such as an ocean cargo ship or a trailer tractor and are the standard option when transporting goods or material over longer distances. Rail, Trucking and shipping (air and sea) transportation is now designed to be able to carry a variety of containers all over the world, and the containers themselves have been standardized in terms of capacity, material and size for ease of use and handling all over the world. This standardization of containers also helps customs officials inspect and clear goods for shipment.
